How to make the best iced tea?

I bought an iced tea maker so I don’t always have to run to the store to buy more. I just can’t seem to get it right. I have been trying to make green tea with honey and sweet tea with splenda. I am thinking about trying to add lemon to either of these. Anyone have tips for the right amount of these ingredients to add and the right amount of teabags?

My recipe for making iced tea doesn’t involve an iced tea maker, but perhaps you could adapt this to the machine.

I put about a quart of water (the amount doesn’t matter at all) and approximately a cup of sugar in a cooking pot and heat until it boils. You could adjust the amount of sugar, or use an equivalent amount of artificial sweetener depending on your taste.

Once the water starts to boil, I add either four of the large “family size” tea bags, or 10-12 regular tea bags and immediately remove the pot from the burner. Let the bags steep in the hot water for at least 20 minutes, but an hour or more just makes it better.

Then take your concentrated tea mixture and pour into a gallon pitcher or bottle. Fill the bottle to the top with tap water and you’ll have perfect Southern-style sweet tea.

Step by Step on How to Make a Delightful Chai Iced Tea

Chai is the common name for tea in INDIA; they called it “masala chai”. The tea is basically black so the other spices do not empower the taste. A wide range of spices are use to make chai tea such as cinnamon, ginger, star anise, cloves, peppercorn and cardamom. Here are the basic steps on how to make chai tea a delightful treat.

Ingredients:

A couple of tsp fresh ginger root; grated a whole star anise; broken up a tsp orange peel; grated four pieces cinnamon bark cut in 1 1/2 inch a tsp cardamom seeds ten whole cloves five whole peppercorns five cups water a quarter cup of black tea leaves a tsp of vanilla a quarter cup of honey three cups of milk

Preparation:

Bind the ginger root, star anise, orange peel, cinnamon bark, cardamom seeds, cloves and peppercorns in a cloth. The process is called “bouquet garni” (Bouquet garni- is a bundle of herbs usually tied together mostly with a string and use to     prepare soup, tea or stock.) Put the bouquet garni in a jar of water and then bring water to a boil, after that, and then set the heat to low and continue cooking. (Boiling water may take out the bitterness of the leaves.) Add in the tea leaves and then let it simmer for 15 minutes more. When you’re done take out the bouquet garni from the pot and then filter the liquid with the use of a strainer to take out tea leaves. Mix in honey, vanilla, and milk before serving. You may either serve it hot or cold.

How do you make Thai iced tea?

Does anyone know how to make Thai iced tea and where I could go buy the tea? I live in an area where all the restaurants serve it and there are tons and tons of Asian shops around but I haven’t been able to find the actual tea.

Here’s a recipie I found on the Food Network website, and it contains ingredients that should be easy to find:
Ingredients
6 cups water
1 cup Thai tea
3/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons cream
6 tablespoons condensed milk
Directions
In a kettle, bring the water to a boil. Place the tea in a teapot or glass container. Pour the water over the tea and let steep until bright orange in color, 3 to 5 minutes. Strain into a clean container, such as a pitcher (or, if in tea bags, remove the bags). Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Let cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Fill 6 tall glasses with crushed ice and add tea to 3/4 full. Add 1 tablespoon cream and 1 tablespoon condensed milk to each glass.

Serve with iced-tea spoon so guests can swirl the mixture themselves.
