Who can tell me about air conditioning parts or lead me to a good diagram?
We are trying to fix the air conditioning at work (the landlord won’t do anything) and need to replace some parts. We have the ducts and I have found out that the ducts are connected to the collars (male/female). The collars are then attached to a big square piece which then has the grille attached where the air goes out. Does anyone know what the big metal square piece is called? I’ve been looking online but so far, no luck.
And if you know of any good diagrams illustrating this, that’d be great as well.

You are referring to a supply air plenum. And the grill piece is called a supply register.

How do you fix poor home air conditioning circulation?
I live in a three story townhouse and our air conditioning system works fine except for the basement is freezing and our top bedroom floor gets hardly any circulation. Is their a cheap fix to this?
close off the supply regesters and block the return vent in the basement if there are any….if basement gets humid use a dehumidifier…close off the supply regesters partially on 1st floor..you are looking to cut airflow by at least 50% to 1st floor,,also be sure to close regesters completely in room where tstat is located since it will react to temp in that room,you want to delay that rooms temp drop while ac is on…………………..also block off the 1st floor return vent about 3/4 or so, assuming there is a decent size return on the top floor[s].need returns to pull hot air from top floor[s]..not enough to just deliver cold air to the rooms……..to block off returns you can buy those magnetic vent covers,similar to refrigerater magnets,,just larger and solid white colored….also consider “booster fans”..i recommend the kind that mount directly on the supply regester…can only be used if regesters are on floor or low on the wall….follow mounting and setting instructions,available at home depot or similar store…also consider setting tstat fan switch to “on” during hot weather so blower will continue circulating air even when ac has cycled off….as far as blocking returns and closing supplies,,its ok in MODERATION.. dont do it so much that overall airflow is reduced to the point of affecting the system…somewhat trial and error…..also be sure there arent any duct dampers in the basement ducts..either the main large ducts or the smaller takeoffs…if there are dampers,,make sure they are all open to begin with,,then adjust as needed,perhaps as an alternative to adjusting the supply regesters……also consider getting an attic fan if you dont already have one and its practical to install one…..dan
